1999-2000
Daniil Strakhov’s
theater career was give n
a new start in 1999 upon a meeting with Andrey Zhitinkin in the
Mossovet
Theater. The latter offered Daniil a tiny role of the Moroccan Prince in
The Merchant of Venice. This has kept Strakhov busy for another two
years, when another offer came: Chikatilo, the maniac.
‘I’d lie
if I said I cared a little then as to whom play and under whose
direction. Say, if Kirill Ganin waved to me, I wouldn’t go, unlike Petr
Phomenko... Of course, the possibility to revive my theater career was
of the highest priority. Was I aware of provocative nature of Zhitinkin’s
plays? Yes, I was. As much was I aware of their short life. The
permissiveness the theater and other arts are exposed to today is, in my
opinion, much due to the time we live in, and there’s nothing we can do.
However, while my outer self was willing to accept all these
roles, my inner one was crying for
something
more insightful. When playing
